Like the company, GilesCivil builds to last. This company and been building Auckland from the ground up for over 60 years and this civil construction team stands by their products and constructs.

GilesCivil Ltd has been around as a civil construction company since 1953. It was formerly known as ND Giles Ltd.

Joe Coombe has been involved with ND Giles since 1999 when he was employed as the Company Manager and David Hick was employed as the Project Manager. N.D Giles voluntarily decided to close the company doors after nearly 50 years in service and Joe and David decided to take up this opportunity.

In 2000, the company was purchased by David and Joe and renamed GilesCivil Limited. The company was formed to utilise the experience and skills of the staff from N.D Giles and as they were one of the few long-established civil construction companies Auckland developers knew they could truly rely on, they wanted to ensure their established clients continued to receive the same dedicated service.

Owner and managing director of Giles Civil since April 2000, Joe has been at the head of Giles Civil for 21 years. Joe has four young adult children and enjoys spending his spare time on his jet ski!

Rohit started working for Giles in 2019 after completing his Master of Civil Engineering at Auckland University. He spent just over a year in New Zealand before returning to India for family reasons. He now works remotely completing our tenders. We are hoping to have him return to New Zealand as soon as possible. Rohit likes to travel in his spare time.

Kyle started at GilesCivil upon leaving school. Kyle moved from labourer up to machine operator and is now an Assistant Site Manager. Kyle loves music.

Giving and growing in Auckland

Since owning GilesCivil Ltd, the team has been involved in several community events, including driving their truck in the Browns Bay Santa Parade and sponsoring and creating their own team for the Santa run.

GilesCivil Ltd values the importance of upskilling their staff and giving opportunities to others. They have close ties with the North Shore Gateway in School Programme. This programme gives young people the opportunity to get to experience the construction industry so they can see if this is where their future may lead. GilesCivil has subsequently employed two staff after completing their Gateway placement with them.

GilesCivil is also closely involved with Auckland universities, giving their students an opportunity to understand, learn and grow within the construction industry.
